We welcome voluteers with every kind and level of skills. Let us know how you want to become involved!


The easiest way to become a volunteer is to subscribe to our mailing list. You'll get updates about current upcoming projects on our trails. Even better, you'll be first to know the schedule for work days and other volunteer opportunities.

Peter's Adopt a Trail!

This program is the legacy of a beloved volunteer and board member, Peter Broderick.
The Bonney Woods Corporation maintains the trails of Bonney Woods and the Powder House Hill trail network. We are looking for people to adopt a trail.

Responsibilities to include:
1. Speak with BWC or attend orientation session or meet with trail committee lead and sign up for a trail
2. Introduce yourself to others in the woods to share who you are, the work you are doing and the work of the BWC.
3. Recommendation to walk adopted trails once a month.
4. Pick up trash.
5. Clear trail of small debris and encroaching vegetation. Cut back canopy (hand tools only). Rule of thumb- 4’ wide x 8’ (minimum) tall clear space
6. Clean/develop water bars and drainage systems (will be discussed on volunteer trail days).
7. Identify invasive species and share with lead for possible mitigation.
8. Review signage and work with lead to address any new signage needed.
9. Promote Leave No Trace outdoor ethics.
10. Submit a brief description of work done and time spent.
11. Share ideas and suggestions with trail committee lead and/or appropriate board members.

All work above to be done with hand tools only. Contact lead for any chain saw, string trimmer, bush hog or other work of interest.

Safety is a priority. Please dress appropriately, gloves, eye protection, long pants, closed toe shoes, etc. Use bug spray, check for ticks. Stay hydrated. Please do not use any personal power tools or machinery. Do not reroute or modify trails. Please report any injuries.
